How to know if Blepharoplasty is right for you?

The eyes are one of the most expressive facial features, playing a crucial role in communication and perception. However, ageing, environmental factors, and genetics can contribute to excess skin, puffiness, and wrinkles around the eyes, leading to a tired appearance or even obstructed vision. Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid lift surgery, is a procedure designed to address these concerns by removing excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids, resulting in a more refreshed and youthful look.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to enhance their appearance and, in some cases, restore vision affected by sagging skin. Dr Rohan Page performs this procedure with precision, ensuring natural-looking results tailored to each patient.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty:

  • Removes excess skin, fat, and muscle between the eyebrow and eyelashes.
  • Uses an incision hidden within the natural crease of the eyelid for minimal visible scarring.
  • Not designed to correct drooping eyebrows or forehead wrinkles—alternative procedures may be recommended.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty:

  • Reduces puffy under-eye bags by removing or repositioning fat and tightening loose skin.
  • Depending on the individual’s anatomy, the incision may be placed inside the eyelid, making it completely invisible.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

You may be a suitable candidate for blepharoplasty if you:

  • Have sagging skin that obstructs vision or affects your appearance.
  • Experience puffiness or under-eye bags that persist despite rest and skincare.
  • Are in good general health and do not have serious eye conditions.
  • Are a non-smoker or willing to quit before and after surgery to support healing.
  • Have realistic expectations and understand the potential outcomes of the procedure.

A consultation with Dr Rohan Page will help determine whether blepharoplasty is the right option for your specific concerns and aesthetic goals.

Procedure and Recovery

Blepharoplasty is performed in a fully accredited hospital and typically takes between 1–2 hours. The type of anaesthesia—local or general—will depend on the patient’s individual needs and medical history. After the procedure:

  • Swelling and bruising are expected but generally resolve within two weeks.
  • Cold compresses and prescribed ointments can help reduce discomfort and promote healing.
  • Most patients can resume their usual daily activities within two weeks, with makeup helping to conceal any residual bruising.

Risks and Complications

At Dr Rohan Page’s practice, patient safety is our highest priority. While blepharoplasty is a well-established procedure with a high success rate, it is important to be aware of potential risks, including:

  • Over-removal of skin, which may lead to irritation or, in rare cases, corneal exposure.
  • Minor asymmetry between the eyelids due to uneven healing.
  • Scarring, though typically discreet within the eyelid’s natural crease.
  • Temporary dryness, excessive tearing, or mild vision changes.
  • Extremely rare cases of blindness, with a higher risk for smokers and individuals with pre-existing eye conditions.

Dr Rohan Page will discuss these risks in detail during your consultation, ensuring you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision about your procedure.
